2004-03-11 Thursday

Cant believe its Thursday already, this week is going so quick.

Yesterday I worked from 8am to 8pm and thats pretty representative of the rest of the week so far.

I forgot to tell you about last weekend.

I worked all day Saturday then I had the Dawn and Nuria "Girls night out" thing.

This ended up being really great! Sharon didnt show up, probably because of me. She sent Dawn a text about getting a last minute lift up north to see her family, because yeah, shes such a family person! I dont know about the others but I was pretty relieved about that, it turns out that she had fallen out with Nuria earlier in the week anyway.

I was also kinda worried about the type of places those girls like to go. Mega trendy type places. Both of them bought new outfits for the occasion, but Im being the queen of all cheapskates at the moment and I refuse to buy anything that would need to come out of the "Going home fund". At the last minute I relented and bought some new shoes, but thats it.

After a few bottles of wine at dinner, we started off in the trendy Bar 38, where everyone just stands around and looks at each other. This guy started chatting to us about who knows what and eventually I got him to sing an original composition for us regarding the subject of beer. Which vaguely amused me, but not Nuria who wanted to leave.

Then we went to the slightly less trendy Po Na Na, which was ok, except there were no men. We're not exactly sure why that is, but we were guessing its because it was early and the place hadnt started to fill up yet. Not that we were especially on the look out for anyone, all of us being very attached, but we just felt weird about the mix or lack of.

So then we went to the ultra "I wanna be seen bar", The Opal Lounge, where famous people drink in Edinburgh- or so Im told. Apparently Prince Harry was there recently. After waiting in the queue for 15 minutes and paying a fiver to get in, not being able to check our coats and having about 10 people stand on my new shoes (and aching feet) we managed to find a nice little spot near the DJ where we danced merrily to clubby dance music until about two. Then we left together to find cabs, no one was drunk or abusive or sick on the street, and we hugged and told each other we had a great time, which is pretty different to how most nights seem to end here.

I went home to a nice warm bed, with a tired and aching G in it, back earlier in the night from his ski trip.

I dont think I was too pathetic while he was away, was I?

Next morning I was pretty ill, but Ive discovered that if you take half a Mersyndol early enough you get no hangover at all. In a moment of madness I took a whole one and ended up sleeping for the rest of the day, getting up briefly to eat.

and that was my weekend.

This weekend, I have drinks Friday night as two people from my team are leaving, then working all day Saturday, Gs parents are coming through on Saturday evening and having dinner, then I am going to lie on the couch all day Sunday and veg.

Did I mention Im completely knackered?
